Lantern Hour

The lantern is doing two jobs. It is light and it is a sign. The sign is older than the lighting and the lighting is older than the camera.

She is not posed. She is between rooms, between hours, the way the work of being a maiko is mostly travel between two appointments. We caught her on the in-between.

Look at the hairpieces. Look at the white at the back of the neck. Then look at the lantern again.
